there are distant chimes of keys,
strings, humming. Black on grey,
grey on white, white on violet,
and blue, and sparkling green.
Hush my darling, can you feel this?
The ticking, the swinging, the
weeping, inevitable, but I will
protect, retain, secure. I will
not let your phenomenality fade.
Sometimes the tears and the
momentum swivel backwards,
erratically, before returning
to their once forgotten paths.
Adorned in frankincense,
myrrh, flakes of gold, dust
swept off beloved things,
dormant but unforgotten,
I will lie beside you, and
we will lie together and
contemplate the ashes.
Now and forever, my darling,
can you see it? My gaze into
yours, a glance that I will
not cast aside, but from the
side, from the edge of
my peripherals it both
originates and terminates.

the way your eyes lit up
like the fires burning in the sky
the same fires burning in your soul
how there is a flame inside of you
constantly burning so very deep
too deep to feel from the outside
your hands are cold
maybe mine are just warm
but the fire in your soul burns hotter
so much hotter than the one in mine
nearly burnt out
but when around you
you are the catalyst
my flame burns stronger
never as hot as yours
but warm enough to bring me back

the way your face brightened
